Name 2–3 faculty members whose recent publications intersect with your research trajectory. Mention specific laboratories, institutes, or special archives at the target university that make this institution irreplaceable.
Long-Term Academic & Disciplinary Trajectory (10% of length)
State your career objectives clearly (e.g. tenure-track faculty position, industrial research laboratory leadership, policy think tank researcher) and how this degree represents the necessary bridge.
Addressing Academic Inconsistencies
If your academic record has an anomalous grade dip or semester interruption, address it in two or three direct, objective sentences. Take accountability, state how you rectified the issue, and pivot immediately back to subsequent upward academic momentum.
